The Philadelphia Flyers have signed 21-year-old defenseman Hunter McDonald to a two-year entry-level contract beginning in the 2024-25 season, according to general manager Danny Briere.
McDonald was drafted 165th overall in 2022, and has spent the 2023-24 season with Northeastern University. He has one goal and five assists, but led his team in PIM and blocked shots, where he blocked 52.
Standing at six-foot-four and 220 pounds, he was the Hockey East's Best Defensive Defenseman during the 2022-23 season, and was named Northeastern's Rookie of the Year in that same season.
McDonald is currently playing with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms on an AHL Pro Try-Out, where he will stay for the remainder of the 2023-24 season.
