The Philadelphia Flyers have rounded out their 2024 NHL Draft business by taking defenseman Austin Moline with the 205th pick in the seventh round of the draft.
Standing at 6'4" and 194 lbs., Moline's physicality is the first thing people will notice about his game, but he also can utilize his penchant for creating space and staying on puck carriers to bolster the backline.
Described by Elite Prospects as an "ever-willing activator," Moline isn't afraid to get involved in the offensive side of the game as well, with one scouting report nothing that "it’s rare not to see him sprint up the ice on the weak side or as a trailer in position for a drop."
A mobile skater with "stable" edges, Moline himself has said that the best aspect of his game is his passing, and has emphasized how important it is for him to be drafted in his home city of Las Vegas.
“It feels great to represent this city," he said in an interview with Las Vegas news network KTNV. "I’m sure in the next 5, 10 years there’s going to be a lot of great players that come out of here too, so I can’t wait to watch that too.
"It’s cool to be a role model. Maybe come down here, train young kids when I’m older. Help them out and tell them my story as well. Tell them that you have to work hard when people aren’t watching so it’s going to be great to help these kids out.”
