The Philadelphia Flyers traded up a second time, acquiring Heikki Ruohonen with the 107th pick from the Calgary Flames in exchange for their 150th and 177th selections.
Ruohonen, a center from Finland, is yet another name on the center depth chart that Flyers GM Danny Briere looks to be building in this draft.
DailyFaceoff called him one of Finland's "most consistent players" at the U18 World Championship, noting that "he’s an intelligent forward who doesn’t do anything particularly great but is average in just about everything."
It may not sound like the most exciting acquisition in the world, but Elite Prospects did highlight that Ruohonen is “a two-way centre who drives play, pushes the pace and has some power forward qualities." His playmaking abilities are a particular area that fans will want to keep an eye on as he continues to develop.
Selecting the young Fin also continues the Flyers' theme of picking players who are recognized as having a solid work ethic and are making significant efforts to improve their all-around games.
