Lawyers for the five athletes accused of sexually assaulting a young woman in Ontario have begun discussions with the court over matters concerning the trial for the 2018 Hockey Canada sexual assault case, Rick Westhead reported on Tuesday.

The lawyers, who are representing the five former members of the 2018 World Juniors team (Carter Hart, Michael McLeod, Cal Foote, Alex Formenton, and Dillon Dube) individually, appeared in court virtually on the morning of Mar. 5.

Another pre-trial meeting is scheduled for Apr. 3 of this year, where the lawyers will meet with the judge and prosecutors to discuss more details of the trial.

According to Westhead, lawyers not involved with the trial predict that that the trial will last more than a month.

As for an actual trial date, that could be decided on Apr. 9, although it is not confirmed when exactly one will be set. Due to a severe backlog in the London court system, it is likely that the trial will not officially begin until 2025.
