Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports - Flyers Goaltender Banned By IIHF

The saga of Philadelphia Flyers goalie Ivan Fedotov and the IIHF continues.

The IIHF has banned the netminder for three years of international play. This ban also includes the Olympics, which are set to take place with NHL players in 2026. The NHL hasn't played in the Olympics since 2014.

Fedotov's journey to the NHL is a roller coaster. After other issues, from being unable to leave Russia because he hadn't served Military time to sign an entry-level contract with the Flyers, the 2015 7th-round pick finally made his NHL debut this season.

CSKA Moscow has also been issued a 24-month transfer ban, and the Russian Ice Hockey Federation has been fined 1 million francs ($1.1 million). If Fedotov were to leave the NHL and play internationally, he would have to serve a six-month ban from club play.

Fedotov signed a two-year extension with the Flyers shortly after the season ended, so unless something goes completely haywire, these sanctions won't affect Fedotov's ability to play next season.

Fedotov, Russia, and the IIHF have a lot of history. Still, the only thing that matters now is that the 6'7 goalie is in Philadelphia and will be part of the Flyers organization next season.
