Megan DeRuchie-The Hockey News - Matvei Michkov Named NHL Rookie Of The Month

The Philadelphia Flyers' young superstar Matvei Michkov has been named October's Rookie of the Month by the NHL.

Michkov leads all NHL rookies in goals (4), powerplay goals (3), powerplay points (6), and is tied with the Dallas Stars' Logan Stankoven for most overall points.

The 19-year-old created a substantial amount of buzz when he came over to the U.S. in July to participate in the Flyers' preseason training camps, arriving two years ahead of his projected schedule.

Although his skill and talent levels had him projected going much higher, Michkov was selected seventh overall by the Flyers in the 2023 NHL Draft, likely due to the fact that it was considered unlikely that he would be able to get out of his KHL contract and arrive stateside before 2026.

While it's obviously an honor to receive this accolade in his first month of being an NHL player, Michkov remained humble, saying that he's just focused on "enjoying the game on a daily basis" and his mindset has stayed set on "getting ready for the next game."

The Russian winger is expected to take the ice at the Wells Fargo Center for the Flyers' next game against the Boston Bruins on Nov. 2.
