A fan favorite has been axed from the Pittsburgh Penguins front office race.

The Pittsburgh Penguins continue to trim their list of candidates as their search for a new general manager nears its conclusion.

After a couple rounds of interviews, the Penguins have eliminated Carolina Hurricanes’ assistant general manager Eric Tulsky from the running.

According to Pierre LeBrun on TSN, Tulsky is no longer in the running after a pair of interviews.

LeBrun noted that both Tulsky and Dan MacKinnon of the New Jersey Devils are off of the Penguins’ list.

Losing out on Tulsky is a big hit to take considering he has been a fan favorite choice since the beginning of the search in Pittsburgh.

Tulsky played a huge role in building a Carolina Hurricanes team that regularly dominates in the Eastern Conference.

The recent inclusion of Kyle Dubas into the search put much of the Penguins’ process on pause as they weigh the former Toronto Maple Leafs’ GM’s status.

The Penguins asked and received permission to speak with Dubas following his falling out with Toronto.

If Dubas wants a job in the Penguins’ management group he’ll likely get it as he was Fenway Sports Groups’ first priority.

Of the other remaining candidates, LeBrun stated that Tampa Bay Lightning AGM Matthieu Darche is also still involved in conversations.

Jason Botterill might also still be coasting around as an unexpected candidate.
