Alex Nedeljkoivc led the Pittsburgh Penguins to a shutout win but also celebrated another win on the day.
Alex Nedeljkovic had himself a pretty good 72 hours and it didn’t just involve a huge shutout win in his return to the Pittsburgh Penguins lineup.
Blanking the reigning Stanley Cup champions is certainly a big boost for the Penguins and Nedeljkovic, but he also got to have a little fun outside of the sport of hockey.
The Parma, Ohio native watched his favorite football team, the Cleveland Browns, defeat the Pittsburgh Steelers just hours before taking the ice in his return.
As a way to celebrate, Nedeljkovic spoke to media postgame while wearing a No. 95 Myles Garret Cleveland Browns jersey.
Nedeljkovic noted that he may have had a slightly different game-day routine thanks to the game, but he definitely enjoyed the outcome of both games.
The Browns defeated the Steelers 13-10 and Cleveland’s defense stood tall like they’ve done most of the season.
“Defense once again did a great job,” Nedeljkovic said. “It was a good game.”
Nedeljkovic donned the jersey earlier in the week while watching a Penguins practice while still recovering from his lower-body injury, so this was nothing new.
On his 38-save shutout, however, Nedeljkovic said he felt good in his rehab stint in the AHL and his return to the NHL lineup.
“It was nice to get back out there in Providence,” Nedeljkoivc said. “Obviously, tonight was a great night, as well.”
During his one game with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, he scored a goalie goal, which happened to be his second ever in the AHL and third in professional hockey.
The Golden Knights pulled their goalie late in the game against the Penguins, giving Nedeljkovic a chance at another tally, but he didn’t get the opportunity.
“You’ll have to ask Tanger [Kris Letang] that question,” Nedeljkovic said. “Not too sure where he was going there at the end.”
Nedeljkovic secured his first shutout in a Penguins uniform and helped give the team their league leading fifth blanking of the season.
Tristan Jarry is credited with three on the year, a combined shutout with him and Magnus Hellberg count for one, and Nedeljkovic’s first.
