Former Pittsburgh Penguins president Brian Burke has found a new job in professional women's hockey.
The hockey world got huge news when the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) announced their first six cities and plans have begun on a season set to start in January of 2024.
To help with the process as an executive with the PWHL’s player’s association is former Pittsburgh Penguins president Brian Burke.
The former Penguins’ president was rumored to be an integral member of the PWHLPA, but he got a chance to speak on the creation of the league.
Burke said this was the most exciting day in the history of professional women’s hockey, seeing the league as a stamp on the hard work and massive growth over the last few years.
For many years, Burke has stood behind growing the game of hockey for everyone, and hopes the PWHL will draw players from all over the world.
Burke said it doesn’t matter where someone has played before, whether it be NCAA, Europe, or other leagues.
“If you’re good enough, we have a spot for you.”
Burke was president of the Penguins until his firing at the end of the 2022-23 season and was soon replaced by Kyle Dubas.
Aside from a short stint on NHL Network, this is Burke’s first job since being relieved of his duties in Pittsburgh.
