The Pittsburgh Penguins might not be done making big additions to their lineup.
Kyle Dubas and the Pittsburgh Penguins made their splash move of the offseason when they acquired Erik Karlsson from the San Jose Sharks.
The big changes might not be done, as there has been some interest between the Penguins and free agent forward Tomas Tatar.
A veteran of 12 seasons in the NHL, Tatar is coming off of a season where he put up 20 goals and 48 total points with the New Jersey Devils.
Tatar said in a European outlet that he has heard interest from the Penguins, but didn’t want to give much more detail.
The Athletic’s Rob Rossi noted that the Penguins are ‘keenly interested’ in Tatar, but a lot might hang on what kind of deal the Czech native can find.
The Penguins can’t offer much more than a professional tryout at the moment with the roster they have constructed.
A one-year deal with the Penguins shouldn’t be ruled out, however, but Tatar is a player that could demand more term.
Through his 783-game career in the NHL, Tatar has totaled 211 goals and 455 points and isn’t far removed from posted 61 in a single season.
Tatar would easily slot in as a middle-six forward option for the Penguins and a skater who could fill in on the top line when needed.
The Penguins have already made huge changes to their lineup, but the forward group could still use an extra punch of offense to really make a difference.
A contract for Tatar would supply that scoring touch and give the Penguins a more well rounded lineup with training camp about a month away.
