The Pittsburgh Penguins welcome undefeated Colorado Avalanche Thursday night.

The Pittsburgh Penguins carry a three-game losing streak into their matchup with the undefeated (6-0-0) Colorado Avalanche. On paper, it looks to be another tough night for the Penguins, but it may be the perfect opponent to help get the Pens out of their early season slump.

Since 2015, the Penguins have an 8-4-1 record against Colorado and took home victories in both matchups last season. Their 5-2 road victory against the Avalanche in March was one of their most complete performances of the season, with goals coming from Jake Guentzel, Bryan Rust, Sidney Crosby, and a pair from Jeff Carter.

Crosby, in particular, always plays well against his good friend Nathan Mackinnon and the Avalanche. In 19 games, Crosby has collected 12 goals and six assists.

Tristan Jarry will likely be in the net for the Penguins following a night off on Tuesday. With Alex Nedeljkovic placed on long-term injured reserve, Jarry will be relied upon more frequently over the next month. Tonight will be his first chance to bounce back after allowing four goals in back-to-back games against Detroit and St. Louis.

A win over the red-hot Avalanche would mark the best victory of the young season for the Penguins and could set them up for a winning streak of their own as they continue their season-long four-game home stand.
