Calgary Flames' top goaltending prospect, Dustin Wolf, is playing in the 2024 AHL All-Star Classic in San Jose, which is not far from his hometown of Gilroy.

Calgary Flames' top goaltending prospect, Dustin Wolf, is playing in the 2024 AHL All-Star Classic in San Jose, which is not far from his hometown of Gilroy.

Wolf is the AHL's reigning MVP of the AHL. He is repeating his stellar season this year with a .927 save % and a record of 18-7-2-4 for the Calgary Wranglers. 

Wolf is getting a homecoming with the AHL All-Star Classic being hosted by the San Jose Barracuda.

"It's awesome," Wolf said after last night's skills competition. "It's certainly a one-time event, let alone being in your hometown. [It's] pretty special. Some family, friends, and obviously the support of the locals."

THN informed Wolf of the plans for Sharks Ice to expand to Gilroy. 

"That's awesome. I had no idea. It's the first time I've heard of it. That's obviously something pretty special," Wolf said about the expansion to Gilroy. "I don't get back here enough as I'd like to, but I certainly wish there was that when I was growing up here." 

Wolf has been surrounded by local media but discussed what this expansion could mean for the Gilroy area. 

"The market is growing substantially here each and every day, and from the time I started playing to now, it's obviously twice as large," Wolf explained. "Having the Barracuda here certainly helps. Any opportunity you can grow the game of hockey in the state of California is an added bonus."

Since he played here growing up, Sharks Ice San Jose has undergone a massive expansion. It has added home of the 'Cuda, Tech CU Arena, and has another ice surface. The whole facility has six ice sheets. 

"This place is constantly growing. There are rinks being built left, right, and center," Wolf told THN.

Wolf and the Pacific Division All-Stars will play the 2024 AHL All-Star game tonight with a puck drop at 6 p.m.
