The San Jose Sharks earned their first win of the season, defeating the Philadelphia Flyers 2-1 last night.

Despite the win, both head coach David Quinn and the players know they can play a more well-rounded game.

"It wasn't like we played great. I don't want to think oh wow, they won a game. We played the way we're capable of playing, but we can play much better," Quinn said postgame. "But you know, we checked a lot of boxes and showed some characteristics that we're going to need. I thought there were a lot of good things, but I thought we left a lot of offense on the table."

Quinn wasn't the only one who said they could play better, too. Tomas Hertl said upfront that the Sharks need to produce more offense.

"We played a pretty good 60 minutes [of] hockey. We could have had more shots than what shows on the scoreboard because we spent probably the most time in the O-zone, but it was a great effort."

The Sharks were outshot 39-19 last night. While they had more offensive zone time last night, the Sharks were reluctant to shoot after the first few shifts.

"Protecting the small rink is something we've got to do a better job taking care of," Quinn said this morning.

A total 60-minute effort is something the Sharks have been trying to do all season.

"I think all of us gave a good effort today. We all wanted to win," Eklund said postgame. "We blocked shots. We played together. We stood up for our goalie. We did the essentials that we needed to do out there. So together today, we played really good hockey."

The Sharks face the struggling Edmonton Oilers tomorrow as they try to put together a second consecutive 60-minute effort.
