James Guillory-USA TODAY Sports - Three Takeaways From Sharks Loss to Hurricanes

Although the San Jose Sharks lost 3-0 to the Carolina Hurricanes, there are some things to take away.

San Jose hasn't scored since the first period against the Florida Panthers game, but head coach David Quinn feels the goals will come.

    Sharks had more high-danger chances

The Sharks were out-chanced overall 45-22 against the Canes. According to Natural Stat Trick, the Sharks had more high danger chances at even strength 10-6.

William Eklund arguably had the best game of his career and had nothing to show. He finished with 17:01 TOI and three SOG. He was dynamic in creating chances for himself and others.

San Jose went 0/2 on the powerplay, and Kyle Burroughs discussed it after the game.

"Powerplays have success when they're simple, shooting pucks," Burrough's said. "It's easier said than done, but we still have to get pucks to the net and play simple."

    Kaapo Kahkonen looked really good

Kaapo Kahkonen Stopped 37 shots last night and did everything in his power to keep his team in the game.

Kahkonen made some big saves, but the Sharks couldn't break the puck out with any structure.

"We give up too many chances, but I think that's more puck play than it is structure," Quinn said.

Veterans need to score at some point

Tomas Hertl, Mike Hoffman, and Anthony Duclair have combined for two goals this season.

Duclair has 11 shots, Hertl has 16, and the most concerning part is Hoffman, who has nine shots in eight games.

Hoffman was brought in to help with scoring depth. Hoffman finished last night's game without a shot on goal. He is playing on the top powerplay unit with Duclair and Hertl and isn't pulling the trigger.

"Seems like when things aren't going your way, it stays like that for an extended period of time," Hoffman said. "We're just trying to get ourselves out of it as quickly as we can."
