The New York Rangers have placed former San Jose Sharks forward Barclay Goodrow on waivers.
Goodrow had six goals in 16 playoff games during the Stanley Cup Playoffs, including an overtime goal against the Florida Panthers.
The Rangers are looking for salary cap relief and are hoping a team claims Goodrow. Goodrow has a cap hit of $3,641,667 and a 15-team no-trade list. The 31-year-old has three years left on his deal and had a down regular season.
He's a proven winner with the Tampa Bay Lightning and had a strong playoff for the Rangers, but his cap hit is high for a fourth-line forward. Elliotte Friedman and other insiders confirmed that this is a cap-related move.
The Sharks could be interested in re-acquiring Goodrow as veteran talent at a reasonable cap hit for a rebuilding team. He is familiar with the organization and knows what it takes to be an NHL player.
