The San Jose Sharks have traded for Minnesota Wild defenseman Calen Addison.
First reported by Kevin Weekes, the Sharks seem to have acquired a puck-moving defenseman.
Shortly after his report, The Athletic's Michael Russo gave insight into the return.
The Sharks also traded forward Adam Raska to the Wild.
Through 12 games this season, Addison has five assists. The defenseman is 23 years old and is seen as a guy with offensive upside.
“Calen is a talented young defenseman who sees the ice well and moves the puck well,” said Grier. “He is a very good player on the power play, and we are excited to add him to our group.”
The Sharks have struggled to break the puck out of their zone and set up offensively. Mike Grier said that if they can line up a deal that works for the long-term and the short-term, he wouldn't be afraid to make a trade.
"If there's something there that maybe fits what we want to do long-term, age-wise, and player profile-wise, then maybe there's things we will look at," Grier said on Monday. "We're not going to do anything that would jeopardize or get in the way of our young players' development or move important draft capital just to try and salvage the season."
Addison is a perfect low-risk, high-potential reward for the Sharks, and this deal is excellent.
