After Devin Cooley gave up eight goals, San Jose Sharks goalie Georgi Romanov made his NHL debut against the Edmonton Oilers.
Starting netminder Mackenzie Blackwood did not make the trip to Edmonton due to an injury. Romanov earned a call-up because of his recent play but wasn't expected to enter the game.
Cooley gave up eight goals on 22 shots. Based on the number of goals he gave up, the Sharks' head coach likely didn't want to pull Cooley, but he had to save his netminder.
Romanov made one save before the Oilers scored again. Connor McDavid fed Zach Hymen for his 100th assist of the season, becoming just the fourth person in NHL history to achieve that feat.
The Sharks face the Calgary Flames on Thursday to finish the regular season.
