The San Jose Sharks played a preseason game in Utah this season, showcasing what hockey could look like in Salt Lake City.
The Sharks lost to the Los Angeles Kings 4-3 in overtime but showcased what a game could be like at the Delta Center in Utah.
With the rumors of the Arizona Coyotes relocating coming out yesterday, Sharks head coach David Quinn was asked what he could remember during the team's short time in Utah.
"To me, when you left there, you thought this would be a great place to have an NHL franchise," Quinn said. "You just felt the excitement in the building and around the arena. I know we weren't there long, but you could feel it was a situation I think the NHL should and would look long and hard at."
Quinn did pump the breaks slightly and had praise for both the Arizona market and the Utah market.
"If the rumors are true, I think it'd be a great situation, but I also believe it'd be a great situation for hockey to thrive in Arizona," he said.
"When your first go, it was kind of cool, but obviously, in the National Hockey League, you want to be in buildings that you're used to playing in the National Hockey League," Quinn said about Mullett Arena. "I can't speak to all of that. Our focus here is coaching our team and continuing to move forward here as an organization. From a financial standpoint, the NHLPA feels the way they do, and I certainly understand it."
