Dean Tait - Hockey Shots - Devin Cooley Says Sharks Goalie Coach 'Revolutionized' His Game; Gives Hilarious Postgame Interview

San Jose Sharks goalie Devin Cooley stopped 49 shots against the Seattle Kraken last night and gave the world some fantastic quotes.

He praised his goaltending partner Mackenzie Blackwood and Sharks goalie coach Thomas Speer.

Cooley's 49-save performance in their first road win with San Jose is the most by a goalie in franchise history.

Like after his first win in San Jose, Cooley talked about his mentality and how he goes about the game.

"I try not to think about the future too much. I tried to just really stay in the present," Cooley said. "I saw a few shots early on and that helps you get into the flow of things. So once I made the first couple of saves, I was like, Hey, I feel good."

Cooley made some spectacular saves throughout the game, including some special ones in the third period, when he stopped 16 shots.

Cooley gave one of the best answers in NHL history when asked if he took a peek at the shot total during the third.

"I check it every once in a while, but yeah, again, I just try to stay in the present moment. I just keep repeating myself like there are no thoughts. There is no future. There are thoughts. There is no future. I just said that over and over and over again. So that way, I could just take it one save at a time," Cooley explained. "Then I also say nothing matters. Nobody cares. Nothing matters. Nobody cares. So, it keeps me grounded. Like if I make a big save or I look up, I'm like, Wow, a goal on 40 shots or whatever. I'm like, I feel good. It's just like, nobody cares, you know? Nothing's really gonna matter, we're all gonna die, you know? It sounds a little grim, but it helps keep me grounded."

Cooley's mentality is to stay in the present. A good mindset is crucial for a goalie's performance. Cooley has won his last two starts and made 83 saves on 86 shots.

Cooley's feel-good story of being a hometown kid playing for the team he grew up for is turning into more than just a nice story. It's turning into something special.

"I don't care if he's from Guam or San Jose; I mean, the fact that he's stopping pucks and plays like that, I mean, I'm glad he's on our side," Sharks head coach David Quinn said. Obviously, it's a nice story, and I'm happy everybody's excited about that, but it's the National Hockey League. I'm just glad he played the way he did."

Devin Cooley was a complete unknown to many Sharks fans before his trade, but with his last two performances, he will likely be remembered as one of the coolest moments in Sharks' history. His story isn't over, either. Cooley will be a UFA after the season, and the Sharks could look to re-sign him and get a longer look at what has been a fairly successful run for him.
