During his pre-draft availability, San Jose Sharks GM Mike Grier revealed that Calen Addison will not be re-signed.
Grier was asked about the status of restricted free-agent talks and told reporters that there are "varying levels of seriousness" to each conversation.
"We will not be signing Calen Addison," Grier said. "The other guys, [Filip] Zadina and [Luke] Kunin, we're having conversations and working towards that, but I will give you that Addison won't be back here."
The Sharks acquired Addison from the Minnesota Wild early in the season and played 60 games for the Sharks. He had one goal and 11 assists. He struggled to maintain a spot in the lineup during the season.
Addison, 24, is a pending RFA and does have arbitration rights.
"Where we are right now, we have some other guys in front of him," Grier said. "I think there's a need to probably take a step up as far as somebody can run the powerplay. Calen did fine here, and I wish him the best, but you have to make some decisions. There are only so many roster spots."
