Today was a tough day for Canada. In a game where they were heavily favoured, they suffered a shocking loss to Denmark.
After leading 1-0 through 45 minutes, Team Canada was called for a penalty on a stick lift that broke a stick, and on that late third-period power play, Denmark scored to tie the game.
Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worse when Denmark shot a puck on net with 49 seconds left, and Nick Olesen put home the rebound, giving them the lead very late in the game. Canada wasn't able to score with the goalie pulled, and that officially eliminated them from the 2025 Worlds.
This not only puts an end to Macklin Celebrini's debut at the Worlds — it also ends Canada's favourite mentorship between him and Sidney Crosby. It was a story that caught a ton of eyes, and sadly they couldn't get it done in the quarterfinals. They will now head home and get ready for next season.
For San Jose Sharks fans, their attention now turns to Will Smith and Team USA, and Alexander Wennberg and Team Sweden, who have the potential to face each other in the gold medal game.
