Another day, another great moment by San Jose Sharks’ Macklin Celebrini at the 2025 IIHF World Championships.

The other day, he shared a funny moment between him and Sidney Crosby, and on the weekend he had a highlight-reel no-look pass to set up Crosby. Now, yesterday, he added a highlight-reel goal that will be talked about for weeks.

The goal came off a turnover by Team Sweden. The aforementioned Crosby picked up the puck at his own blue line and looked up ice to see a streaking Celebrini behind the Swedish defense. That’s when he snapped the pass—and Macklin did the rest.

He broke in on a breakaway, pulled off a very nice toe-drag, and tucked the puck past Jacob Markstrom. Not only was the goal impressive, but it also restored Canada’s two-goal lead, which they held onto to win and secure top spot in Pool A.

Watching the play back at a slower speed, it was clear that Celebrini read the play very well. As soon as the Swedish player turned it over and Crosby picked it up, he fled the zone and put himself in position to get in alone on the breakaway.

Had he not done that, he would’ve had a one-on-one, which might have resulted in a shot on net or a missed attempt—and no goal. It was a perfect example of two very talented players connecting on a play that led to a goal.

It’s another great chapter in the growing story between the Hall-of-Famer Crosby and the young star Celebrini. Hopefully, they can top it off with a gold medal at the end of the tournament.
