San Jose Sharks General Manager Mike Grier told reporters not to expect an update on Macklin Celebrini's injury status for at least two weeks.
In his first meeting with the media, since the season started, GM Mike Grier did his best to take some of the heat off coach Ryan Warsofsky when asking about an update for the 2024 No. 1 pick.
"He's week-to-week, but I would say we'll [probably] give you another update in two weeks," Grier said.
Celebrini has been out since Oct. 10 and can be activated off injured reserve anytime. Warsofsky said the center won't travel with the team on its upcoming four-game road trip.
The Sharks aren't worried about Celebrini's development due to his injury. Along with Will Smith, San Jose has emphasized gym work. The team wants the two youngsters to get stronger. Celebrini is skating and in the gym, allowing him to continue developing everything he needs to get off the ice.
"Injuries happen, right? He's going to miss some games here to start, but I think he's getting his skill work done off the ice. He's doing his gym work. I don't think it's going to hinder any of his development," Grier said. "It's definitely been helpful for him to spend some more time in the gym, to keep building up his body to get used to the rigors of the league. When he gets back, he's going to be going against teams' top pair D most nights."
The Sharks will play three home games in the first seven days of November before traveling to the East Coast for a three-game road trip.
