Reports have revealed that Toronto Maple Leafs winger Nick Robertson is available at the upcoming trade deadline. San Jose Shark GM Mike Grier should be on the phone calling for a trade.
Robertson has played 32 games for the Leafs this season and has seven goals and eight assists. He was a highly touted prospect but hasn't been able to be a staple in the NHL lineup.
"Nick Robertson's name has started to pop up in trade chatter as a piece the Maple Leafs are willing to move," The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta wrote in his latest column.
With San Jose at the bottom of the NHL standings, they will be sellers at the deadline. Anthony Duclair's name has been popping up all over trade bait boards. He is likely the most valuable trade asset of the Sharks, pending UFAs.
Duclair isn't having the best season, but his pedigree as a potential 30-goal scorer hasn't left him.
The Sharks are looking to compile draft capital and young prospects, and the 22-year-old fits the perfect mold. Duclair, as a return, would fit the Maple Leafs' needs for a deep playoff run this season.
Duclair was part of the Florida Panthers' run to the Stanley Cup Final last season. He knows what it takes to go deep in the playoffs, which included beating the Maple Leafs in the second round last season.
The Sharks will likely have to throw in a little more than Duclair in this trade, as the Leafs probably won't deal him easily.
The Sharks will be taking calls on everything and anything on the roster, but GM Mike Grier will do his best to help this team complete its rebuild in a timely fashion.
It is trade season! Let the fun begin!
