Dean Tait - Hockey Shots - REPORT: Sharks Winger To Play For Team USA At 2024 IIHF World Championship

Per Andy Strickland, San Jose Sharks winger Luke Kunin will play for Team USA at the 2024 IIHF World Championship, which will be held in Czechia.

Kunin will join American stars like Seth Jones, Brady Tkachuk, and Trevor Zegras as other reported names joining the team. Kunin doesn't have the offensive flash as Tkachuk and Zegras, but his leadership and ability to motivate his team will be valuable.

Kunin hasn't played in the World Championship since 2019, when he played only three games and failed to register a point.

During the 2017 World Junior Championship, Kunin was named captain of Team USA. He had two goals and two assists in seven games. That 2017 roster included other NHL superstars like Adam Fox and Clayton Keller. Kunin helped lead that team to a gold medal.

Sharks head coach David Quinn was the bench boss during the 2023 World Championship when Henry Thrun was on the roster. No head coach has been named yet, but if Quinn is called once again, he knows precisely what Kunin can bring to a tournament-built roster.

The official roster will likely be announced after the NHL regular season ends. The tournament will take place from May 10th to May 26th.
