The San Jose Sharks have announced they have loaned 2024 11th overall pick Sam Dickinson back to the London Knights.

Dickinson was never expected to make the opening night roster but had a strong training camp. The 18-year-old is signed to an entry-level contract but will have his first season slide as he plays in the Ontario Hockey League.

The defenseman played in two preseason games and didn't register a point. His performance showed his inexperience at the NHL level, as the game seemed to be moving a little too quickly for the Sharks' top defense prospect.

"He's been through a lot. He's had some ups and downs. He's been inconsistent at times," Sharks head coach Ryan Warsofsky said. "He's been really good. That's a first-round pick, [we've got a] really good future in that defenseman."

Dickinson's potential is through the roof. With the London Knights last season, Dickinson had 70 points (18 goals, 52 assists) in 68 games. He scored a massive game-tying goal in the Memorial Cup final last season after his team was down 3-0.

Warsofsky related Dickinson's development with Luca Cagnoni. The coach said both defensemen have been thrown into the fire right from the start of training camp.

"He's similar to [Cagnoni]. They're developing by the rep, [honestly]. By the repetitions they get in practice," Warsofsky said. "The scrimmages, the special teams, whatever the situation is, they're learning a lot. They were thrown right into the fire."

Dickinson will return to the OHL and play a significant role with the Knights.
