Abbey Murphey and Lacey Eden each scored twice for Team USA, and Aerin Frankel made 26 saves. USA led 5-0 at the end of the first period. Savannah Harmon, Hannah Bilka, and Alex Carpenter also scored for the Americans.
Blayre Turnbull and Sarah Nurse, cousin of Edmonton Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse, scored for Team Canada. Kristen Campbell gave up five goals in the first and made 12 saves. She was replaced by Ann-Renee Desbiens, who made ten saves.
This was the first time San Jose held a women's hockey event, and the turnout was solid. Just over 3,000 people attended, and many San Jose Sharks players and staff were in the crowd.
Team Canada Women's hockey legend Marie-Philip Poulin was in the lineup. PWHL 2024 first-overall pick Sarah Fillier played for Canada as well. Hilary Knight did not play for Team USA but is on the roster.
