The San Jose Sharks have been linked to Toronto Maple Leafs forward Nick Robertson.

Cam Robinson of Elite Prospects posted the following on X on Monday morning:

Robertson signed a one-year deal with the Maple Leafs this August which carried a cap hit of $1.825 million. However, now that he is waiver-eligible, the Maple Leafs’ general manager Brad Treliving faces the decision to either keep the 24-year-old California native in the NHL or place him on waivers in an attempt to send him to the American Hockey League.

Robertson has shown that he can score goals at the NHL level, especially over the last two seasons. In 56 games with the Maple Leafs during the 2023-24 season, Robertson scored 14 goals and added 13 assists for a total of 27 points. In the following campaign, he scored 15 goals and tallied seven assists in 69 games.

David Alter went in depth regarding Robertson’s current situation at the beginning of training camp:

Entering Training Camp On One-Year Deal, Nick Robertson’s Future With Maple Leafs Murkier Than Ever Entering Training Camp On One-Year Deal, Nick Robertson’s Future With Maple Leafs Murkier Than Ever Nick Robertson kicked off his seventh training camp with the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday, but his position and role on the team have never been more uncertain. Agreeing to a one-year, $1.825 million contract before he was set to have an arbitration hearing with the club, Robertson didn’t want to get into the business side of why he decided to go that route.

There are questions about Robertson’s game, otherwise he wouldn’t be in this situation. With that being said, the Sharks could certainly benefit from scoring more goals and Robertson can do that. As time goes on though, he will certainly need to improve the other aspects of his game.
