Happy Sunday, San Jose Sharks fans.

We are now a week into NHL preseason and cuts have been made to NHL rosters. The Sharks have a handful more preseason games before opening up their season on Oct. 9th against the Vegas Golden Knights. However, before that, let's take a second to revisit the week that was at the Hockey News' Sharks site.

What started as a $5 foot-long on Jeff Skinner’s dinner plate is now a filet mignon. Every juicy bite perfectly symbolizes the transition from junior hockey to life as a professional in the NHL, and it literally happened to Skinner. He remembers scrounging his cash during his OHL days with the Kitchener Rangers to hit up Subway for whatever sandwich was on special. The next thing he knew, Carolina drafted him seventh overall in 2010 and he was an 18-year-old wunderkind, sniping 31 goals en route to the Calder Trophy.

The San Jose Sharks will log more than 50,000 air miles this season, more than any other NHL team. That’s nothing new. They racked up more than 57,000 in 2013-14 and are always one of the league’s most frequent flyers.

The grateful dead said it best: Lately it occurs to me. What a long, strange trip it’s been… The words from the iconic song Truckin’ sum up what has transpired in and around the NHL since the annual People of Power & Influence list last graced the pages of The Hockey News.

You could argue that the best thing for Michael Misa and James Hagens would be to switch places next season. After Misa scored 62 goals and 134 points in his third season with the OHL’s Saginaw Spirit, he has nothing left to prove in junior hockey and could very well suffer a major case of boredom next season. Playing college hockey would challenge him against more mature players. Hagens has been lights-out on the international stage and was a standout at Boston College, but he might do well in a program where he could shine as an individual and rack up a ridiculous number of points.

Celebrini was on the ice before the scheduled skates, alongside forward Donavan Houle and development coach Mike Ricci. Celebrini was sent home from the first day of training camp due to illness, and had been off of the ice since. While he’s not skating as a part of the bigger groups, it is a sign that things are heading in the right direction for the 19-year-old star forward.
