The San Jose Sharks have called up Jack Studnicka from the AHL and no longer have any post-trade deadline recalls.
After the trade deadline, all NHL teams are allowed four recalls that aren't deemed emergencies (i.e., injuries/illness). The Sharks had many options to call up centers, but with Studnicka being an RFA after this season, one reason why he could've been the choice is to get another look at him.
"I think we're limited with our call-ups, so we're going to be a little bit challenged from that end of it," Sharks head coach David Quinn said today. We've got young guys here, and if we could, I'm sure there'd be more, but we are limited in what we can do."
Studnicka will also have arbitration rights this offseason. The 25-year-old was acquired from the Vancouver Canucks in December. He does not have a point in nine games with the Sharks this season.
In 27 games with the San Jose Barracuda, he has scored six goals and eight assists.
Before the roster move was announced, Quinn said the lineup would be the same as the team's last game, so it is likely he won't play tonight. He also did not skate this morning, and the San Jose Barracuda just visited the Calgary Wranglers yesterday.
The Sharks announced this morning that 2022 first-round pick Filip Bystedt was assigned to the AHL.
