Darren Yamashita-USA TODAY Sports - Sharks' Logan Couture Has No Timetable For Potential Return

San Jose Sharks captain Logan Couture hasn't stepped on the ice since he last played an NHL game in January.

The centerman has been dealing with a deep groin and hip issue that limited him to six games last season. He had been working with a physical therapist in San Francisco but said all his rehab work is within the team.

"I feel pretty good to do a lot of things at home. We've been working on a lot of stuff in the gym. That's kind of where it's at," Couture said. "It's been a lot better since that last game I played in January, and it really flared up on me. It's been a tough few weeks, definitely a tough few days, not being able to move too well. [It] hasn't gotten that bad since then, so I'm grateful for that."

Couture has been in the gym working on rehab exercises and says his daily goal is to get through as much of the program as possible.

"It's been tough. There have been different stages of where mentally I've been at in the last 15-16 months, a lot of ups and downs, highs and lows," Couture said. "I can't say it's been easy, but I've kind of learned how to properly deal with it."

Couture said his next big step is to get back on the ice, but he said it is a ways away.

"There's no immediate plan to get onto the ice," Couture said. "[I've] played hockey for 30+ years. When it ends abruptly, it's difficult, especially when you don't really have a choice. The body just breaks down. But that's the way professional sports, or sports in general, normally work. It's not always injuries, sometimes other reasons, but yeah, that's the situation."

Couture has been trying different rehab styles with the Sharks but would not discuss specifics about what is working and what isn't.
