After he cleared waivers, the San Jose Sharks announced that defenseman Lucas Carlsson had been assigned to the San Jose Barracuda of the American Hockey League.

Carlsson has been out for the entirety of the season, including training camp, with an undisclosed injury. He'd been skating with the NHL club recently and was activated from injured reserve yesterday and waived. He cleared waivers this morning and will become a prominent piece for 'Cuda head coach John McCarthy.

In 52 games with the Charlotte Checkers last season, Carlsson had 39 points (15 goals, 24 assists). The defenseman signed a two-year deal in July with San Jose.
