San Jose Sharks defenseman Henry Thrun signed a two-year extension and is excited about the 2024-25 season's fresh start.
Thrun signed a two-year, $2 million deal and is ready to get back into the swing of an NHL season. The Sharks have changed their roster significantly, but Thrun remains a vital piece on the blue line.
"I mean, it truthfully couldn't be put into words. I was chatting with Mario about [the future] the other week, and I'm just looking forward to a new chance, sort of a fresh slate," Thrun said. "I think last year, from a lot of guys, individual perspectives and a group, it was pretty frustrating. This year will just be a new opportunity, and I think everyone's really excited."
Thrun told the media that he's adding weight during the summer. On the NHL website, the defenseman is listed as 190 lbs, but he says he's now over 200 lbs.
"I'm a little, more than that, that number's pretty outdated," Thrun smiled. "Hopefully, that can be updated this year during training camp. "Right now [I'm] hovering just above 200 pounds. I imagine coming to camp probably at 205, which I'm happy with."
Thrun did say he had conversations with new head coach Ryan Warsofsky about the change of communication style that will happen.
"I mean, the head coach is in a bit of a separate bucket when it comes to the relationship you have with them. That's something that I feel comfortable with Ryan, but recognize that this year, they'll probably be kind of just a different tone to our relationship, which is totally fine and totally the way that I expect it to go," Thrun said.
The 23-year-old will look to add to his three goal eight assist season and take the next step in his development.
