Macklin Celebrini looked comfortable for day one of San Jose Sharks training camp.

The top prospect was on a line with Klim Kostin and Tyler Toffoli during drills and the scrimmage portion of camp. During most shifts of the scrimmage, Celebrini commanded the puck and created plays for his linemates to score goals.

Head coach Ryan Warsofsky demanded a lot of pace from his players. Celebrini said he loved it.

"I loved it. It was high pace. Lots of action, [and] not much rest. It was go, go, go," Celebrini said. "He pushed our whole group. I loved the intensity that he brought. Nothing but good things after the first practice."

Warsofsky said that the intensity of each skate will dictate how the team's identity is made.

"We're not going to waste time. Our time is limited on the ice, especially with the three hours we have with them in the building and the facility, so we can't waste time," Warsofsky said. "That's in our meetings. As a staff, we have to be prepared. That's just something that we do. The game of hockey is chaos, and we're going to try to create some chaos out there."

Celebrini scored a silky shootout goal against starting goalie Mackenzie Blackwood after the scrimmage finished.

Warsofsky was impressed with Celebrini's work over the summer to prepare himself for main camp.

"I thought Mac was really good today," Warsofsky said. "You can see he's put in the work through the summer, and the scrimmage was good."

GM Mike Grier said Celebrini was as good as he expected him to be for his first training camp. Grier also said he felt that all the Sharks prospects had some jitters.

"Yeah, he did well. I think all the young guys had some jitters, but he did well, pretty much what we expected from him," Grier said. "He played both ends of the rink and made some plays. I think Todd Marchant even mentioned even though he's the first overall pick, early in the scrimmage, he was probably deferring to his linemates a little bit. I think the second half, he kind of settled in and played a little bit more of his game."

When asked if Celebrni will be able to handle all the hype surrounding him, he gave a humble response and praised his team's young core.

Celebrini wasn't putting too much pressure on himself to play fantastic today. He loves to play the game of Hockey.

"It's the same game I've played ever since I was a kid. I'm just having fun [and] enjoying it," Celebrini told reporters. "I think the expectations are there. I have those for myself, and you can't really focus too much on them."

Celebrini and the rest of the Sharks will retake the ice for day two of training camp starting tomorrow at 9 a.m.
