Dean Tait - Hockey Shots - Sharks Need To Continue Patience With Prospects

Fans will turn to prospects for hope with the San Jose Sharks still looking for wins in the NHL.

William Eklund and Thomas Bordeleau are with the big club now, but not without the patience of Mike Grier.

Eklund and Bordeleau played an entire season in the AHL and only a brief cameo in the NHL last year. With the Sharks nowhere close to competing for a Stanley Cup, developing prospects slowly is the right move.

Will Smith didn't even attend training camp this summer as he was committed to Boston College. Kasper Halttunen and Quentin Musty had impressive training camps but returned to Juniors.

Despite the bright future, there is still room for the prospect pool to grow and develop.

Players like Ozzy Wiesblatt, Ethan Cardwell, and Shakir Mukhamadullin are paying their dues with the San Jose Barracuda. Cardwell was voted the San Jose Sharks prospect of the year last season. Now, he can continue that development closer to the organization.

Goaltenders Georgi Romanov and Magnus Chrona are entering their first years of pro hockey. Like Cardwell, they will be able to develop under the close eye of the organization.

Grier has done a great job of not rushing prospects to the NHL. For that success to continue, patience is needed.

With a struggle-filled season ahead, the San Jose Sharks will only benefit in the future. Hope is on the way, and it should continue to grow despite the lack of wins for the NHL club.
