Anthony Duclair has had a successful career, and the San Jose Sharks should extend him.

The San Jose Sharks acquired Anthony Duclair from the Florida Panthers this offseason.

Duclair is expected to take on a significant role in the top six. During preseason, he has been asking with Tomas Hertl and Alexander Barabanov; the Sharks expected top line.

The 28-year-old is entering the final year of his contract and is due for a decent pay raise. Duclair currently has a $3 million cap hit. He signed a three-year, $9 million contract with Florida in 2021.

During the 21-22 season, Duclair set career highs in every offensive category (31 goals, 27 assists).

This season, he projects to have a similar offensive output. He will be on the first powerplay unit and could finish as the team's leading goal scorer.

GM Mike Grier will need to keep some players around to help keep veteran leadership and production after more trades come at this year's trade deadline. Depending on his production and the salary cap next season, Duclair could see a pay raise of up to $3-4 million in cap hit.

If the Sharks re-sign the Quebec native, they can't make the same mistakes as years prior. His contract extension needs to be within 3-5 years at length. The only question remains whether Duclair would agree to an offer of around four years and a $24 million contract.
