The Tampa Bay Lightning are playing their best hockey of the season right now. After their 3-1 victory over the Washington Capitals on March 1, the Lightning have now won eight straight games.
Due to their hot play, the Lightning now have a 35-20-4 record and are in a prime position to be buyers. One area they are looking to improve is their top six at the right wing position.
According to Elite Prospects' Cam Robinson, the Lightning are the team pursuing Buffalo Sabres star Alex Tuch the most in trade talks.
"I'm told several teams are calling on the availability of Alex Tuch, but Tampa Bay still appears to covet him the most," Robinson reported on X.
This is not the first time that the Lightning have been connected to Tuch. Last month, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman brought up the possibility of the Lightning being a suitor for Tuch as well.
With the Lightning having a clear hole at the 2RW spot in their lineup, it is not surprising that they are reportedly very interested in Tuch. The 28-year-old forward would provide the Lightning's top six and power play with a massive boost, as he is an impactful scorer with size.
Tuch would also be more than a rental for the Bolts if they acquired him, as he has a bargain $4.75 million cap hit until the completion of the 2025-26 season. This undoubtedly adds to his appeal but also increases his trade value. Thus, the Lightning would need to offer the Sabres a significant trade package for them to even have a chance of acquiring him.
In 58 games this season with the Sabres, Tuch has 22 goals, 46 points, and a plus-13 rating.
