A former Lightning veteran has been released from his professional tryout contract.
On Thursday (Oct. 3), the Colorado Avalanche released Pierre-Edouard Bellemare from his professional tryout (PTO) agreement.
Even though Bellemare's second stint in Colorado ended without him earning a contract, that does not necessarily mean his time in the NHL is done. Experienced forwards with Bellemare's ability in the faceoff circle are always in demand.
This parting of ways also opens up the opportunity to see a potential reunion between him and the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Bellemare, 39, played two seasons in Tampa Bay, acting as the anchor on the fourth line for the Lightning. In 153 games with the Lightning, he posted 33 points and won 51.9% of his faceoffs. The native of France also provided a physical edge to the Lightning lineup that could very well be needed once again this season.
The Lightning have a fair number of players who can check the boxes when it comes to throwing their weight around. As is the case with playing at such a level, we should expect some personnel to fall victim to injuries. Bringing in a veteran like Bellemare would only be an advantage to the Lightning, as the familiarity with the team and environment would already be there.
Even if there may not be an immediate need for Bellemare to be brought back to Tampa Bay, the veteran forward could be a good option for the Bolts to have on their radar.
