The Tampa Bay Lightning have been connected to several defensemen over the last few months leading up to the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline. One of them was Sean Walker, and it was understandable, given their current situation on the right side of their defense. Yet, we now know that Walker will not be heading to Tampa.
The Flyers have traded Walker and their 2026 fifth-round pick to the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for a 2025 first-round pick and Ryan Johansen.
Walker, 29, was one of the top defensemen available on the trade market and would have been a big addition to the Lightning's top four. However, he is now joining a deep Avalanche club and should only improve their blue line as they look to go on another run.
Sean WalkerThe Lightning still have trade targets like Noah Hanifin and Matt Dumba available, but with Walker off the board, their options are starting to decrease rather rapidly.
