Nikita Kucherov picked up his 99th assist of the season on Monday night (April 15) against the Buffalo Sabres. With it, the superstar forward now needs to get just one assist in the Lightning's final game of the year against the Toronto Maple Leafs to reach No. 100.

Down the stretch, Kucherov has not been the only playing pushing for 100 assists, as Edmonton Oilers superstar Connor McDavid has also been on the cusp of making history. On Monday against the San Jose Sharks, McDavid did just that, as became just the fourth player in NHL history to reach the 100-assist mark in a season.

While McDavid reached his 100th assist before Kucherov, No. 86 is still having the better season offensively. In 80 games, Kucherov has 43 goals, 99 assists, and 142 points. McDavid, on the other hand, has 32 goals, 100 assists, and 132 points in 75 games. Both players have simply been magnificent.

Nevertheless, Kucherov will now look to become the NHL's fifth player to reach 100 assists in a single season. When noting that he has nine helpers over his last five contests, getting one assist against the Maple Leafs is certainly very possible for him.
