Boston Bruins assistant GM Evan Gold is on his way out. Could he end up with the Toronto Maple Leafs?

The Toronto Maple Leafs saw a wave of changes to the front office and staff over the past week. Several members of the organization were let go as part of a staff overhaul by GM John Chayka and the team's brass.

This purge by the Leafs' organization saw 14 members dismissed, including two assistant GMs, Dr. Hayley Wickenheiser and Darryl Metcalf.

The only assistant GM that remains is Ryan Hardy, who is the GM of the AHL's Toronto Marlies. Judd Brackett is also an assistant GM for the Leafs, in charge of player evaluation, but he's a new face, as Toronto hired him on June 1.

Therefore, there is room in the Maple Leafs' front office if Chayka is interested in bringing in another assistant GM. With that, Boston Bruins assistant GM Evan Gold has come up as a potential hire for Toronto.

The Boston Globe's Kevin Dupont reported that with Gold departing the Bruins' front office, there were hints over the weekend that he could be joining the Maple Leafs' staff.

Gold, a Toronto native, has been with the Bruins organization for the past 11 years. He started off as the director of legal affairs and held that position for four years beginning in 2015-16. Then, in 2019-20, the 46-year-old executive became an assistant GM for the franchise.

He also earned the responsibility of overseeing Boston's AHL affiliate team as the GM of the Providence Bruins since 2023-24. With Toronto's role of AHL GM already being covered by Hardy, Gold may take on a different duty.

Gold's expertise lies in the areas of salary cap analysis, contract negotiations, roster planning, player salary arbitration, CBA compliance, and pro scouting.

Gold's departure from the Bruins, official as of Aug. 1, comes after Boston hired former Buffalo Sabres GM Kevyn Adams as a senior advisor to the GM and several other front office changes.
