To kick off the Toronto Maple Leafs' media availability ahead of training camp, GM John Chayka provided updates on Max Domi, Chris Tanev, Morgan Rielly, and some others in the organization.

At the Toronto Maple Leafs' media availability to kick off training camp, GM John Chayka provided a list of housekeeping details on some injuries throughout the organization.

Chayka began with an update on center Max Domi. Back in late May, he had back surgery, keeping him out indefinitely.

On Wednesday, the Maple Leafs GM added that Domi failed his physical test going into the 2026-27 season and again mentioned that he will be out indefinitely. He will miss training camp.

Chayka also noted that the 31-year-old will address his situation himself when he feels comfortable.

Defenseman Morgan Rielly is working through a viral condition, Chayka said.

"It's nothing we're worried about, but he'll probably be ramped a little slower than we expect," the GM said. Chayka added that he might miss the first game of the season, but is expected to be ready for opening night.

Another Maple Leafs defenseman who was given an injury update was Chris Tanev. Tanev revealed last week that while he was feeling good and in a positive spot, he was awaiting clearance from doctors for the upcoming season and training camp.

When asked about his status on Wednesday, Chayka said that Tanev is "clear to play."

"I feel really confident that his injuries are in a good place," he said. "He's as healthy as anybody."

In terms of injuries in the team's system, Toronto Marlies defenseman William Villeneuve underwent ACL reconstruction this off-season.

"He'll be out long-term," Chayka said. "But we expect a full recovery."

Finally on that list is defenseman Cade Webber, who had an elbow reconstruction. He's "working through it" and is labelled month-to-month as a recovery timeline.
