The Abbotsford Canucks kicked off the new year, going 5-4-3 in January. They pulled off some massive wins against the Coachella Valley Firebirds and the Tuscon Roadrunners and currently sit fourth in the Pacific Division. Here is a look at four players that stepped up in the last month.

    Arshdeep Bains

Arshdeep Bains continued his strong season with 12 points in 12 games during January. He has already tied his career high with 38 points and was selected to his first All-Star Game earlier in the month. He is a model of consistency, with points in seven of his last eight games, and it is only a matter of time before he gets a call-up to the NHL.

    Vasily Podkolzin

Vasily Podkolzin stepped up in multiple ways throughout January. He finished the month with nine points in 12 games while also showing he isn't afraid to drop the gloves if needed. Averaging 3.92 shots per game, he has developed into a leader on this team and should play a massive factor once the postseason rolls around.

    Max Sasson

Now fully healthy, Max Sasson is showing why the Vancouver Canucks were so keen on signing him as an undrafted free agent. He set a new career high with five primary assists in the month while also recording his first career AHL overtime goal. A staple in the top six, he could be in the top ten for rookie scoring by the end of the season.

    Filip Johansson

Filip Johansson had his most productive month of his AHL career in January. He scored twice and recorded 50% of his total points for the season over the last month. It hasn't been an easy start to the season, but he is finally showing why the Minnesota Wild drafted him 24th overall in 2018.
