General manager Patrik Allvin announced Tuesday that the Vancouver Canucks have mutually parted ways with assistant coach Mike Yeo. Yeo had been with the organization for the past two years and was brought in as an assistant coach under Bruce Boudreau. According to Satiar Shah of Sportsnet 650, the Canucks did offer Yeo a contract extension, but the two sides were unable to come to an agreement.
Yeo was the most experienced coach on Vancouver's staff last season. He has been behind the bench at the AHL or NHL level since 2000 and was an assistant coach with the Pittsburgh Penguins during their 2009 Stanley Cup Championship. Yeo has also been a head coach three times in NHL career, with the latest coming in 2021 when he was named interim head coach of the Philadelphia Flyers.
With Yeo's departure, Adam Foote remains the only assistant coach on Rick Tocchet's staff. That being said, the Canucks do have plenty of experience in their coaching ranks, including Sergei Gonchar as well as Henrik and Daniel Sedin. Ideally, whoever replaces Yeo will be able to help out on special teams, especially on the power play, which is an area Vancouver struggled with late in the season and during the playoffs.
