A look at some of the analytics from the Canucks 4-2 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks.

Welcome to this edition of "The Stats Behind The Game." This recurring deep dive breaks down the analytics behind each Vancouver Canucks game as recorded by Natural Stat Trick. In this article, we look back on the Canucks most recent 4-2 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks.
Vancouver dominated the Blackhawks at even strength for the majority of the night. The Canucks finished with a 33-18 even-strength scoring chance advantage and won the even-strength high-danger chances battle 17-8. It was arguably one of the team's best performances of the season, with the score being much closer than it should have been.
The heatmap for this game shows how strong Vancouver was at both ends of the ice. They created opportunities close to the net, finishing with 16 total high-danger shots while protecting the middle of the ice in their own zone. While in the past, the Canucks have been guilty of playing down to their opponent, that was not the case on Tuesday night, as they kept were able to limit Chicago's chances throughout the game.

One player who had a great game from an analytics perspective was Tyler Myers. In 16:19 of even-strength ice time, Myers finished with an xGF% of 89.93 while posting a 9-1 high-danger chances advantage. Vancouver also outshot the Blackhawks 11-2 with Myers on the ice and had 14 even-strength scoring chances compared to three against. While he did take a penalty, it is hard to critique his play from this game, as he had yet another strong performance.
Lastly, let's look at Noah Juulsen's game, as he was one of the players Rick Tocchet mentioned had a strong game against Chicago. Juulsen finished with 15:43 of total ice time and played a significant role on the Canucks penalty kill. He was physical throughout the game, ending the night with three hits and recorded an even-strength xGF% of 72.29. A player who does his job without making many mistakes; it is great to see him being recognized post-game for his strong play recently.
