Filip Chytil re-joined the Canucks during their morning skate ahead of a matchup against the New York Islanders.
The Vancouver Canucks provided fans with a pleasant surprise during Tuesday’s morning skate ahead of their matchup against the New York Islanders. Forward Filip Chytil was spotted skating on Tuesday, joining the regular group as an extra.
Canucks Head Coach Manny Malhotra specified that the team’s plan is to get Chytil into a couple of practices before giving him his first in-game look.
“We want to integrate him back to practice,” the Head Coach said after today’s morning skate. “It’s tough to have a guy come off an injury and just right into a game situation. He has to get some bumps in practice just to make sure he’s confident and comfortable going into those physical situations, but yeah, he’s progressing nicely.”
Chytil entered the Canucks’ 2026 training camp healthy and ready to compete. He flashed some strong speed as one of Vancouver’s middle-six centres and was even paired with Drew O’Connor and Jonathan Lekkerimäki heading into his first pre-season game. However, the forward got tangled up with a referee during the first period and ultimately left the game with a lower-body injury. He was put on injured-reserve to start the regular season.
Malhotra noted that, while he won’t be returning to game-action quite yet, the impact of Chytil returning to Vancouver extends off the ice.
“Any time you put somebody back around the guys, it gives them a boost of energy, even just in the locker room, and just his excitement level to be back with the guys and skating and participating. It’s a good boost of energy for us.”
