Timothy T. Ludwig-USA TODAY Sports - Former Canucks Goalie Extended By Hurricanes

Former Vancouver Canucks goalie Spencer Martin signed a one-year extension with the Carolina Hurricanes.

The contract is worth $775K for next season.

Martin was claimed off waivers from the Columbus Blue Jackets this season. He has a 4-0-1 record, 1.97 GAA, and a .922 save percentage in five appearances with Carolina this season.

"Spencer has been an excellent addition to our team," Canes GM Don Waddell said in a statement. "He stepped right in and played well for us, and we're excited to sign him for next season."

The Hurricanes have had a round-about of goalies this season due to injuries and struggling play. Starting netminder Frederik Andersen dealt with blood clotting issues, while Antti Raanta and Pyotr Kochetkov struggled through the first part of the season.

All three goalies are healthy and dominating as the Hurricanes close in on the New York Rangers for first place in the Metropolitan Division.

Martin likely won't get many starts down the stretch, but teams usually carry three goaltenders during a playoff run. The Vegas Golden Knights used three goalies during their trip to the Stanley Cup.
