Henrik Sedin's son has signed with Whitecaps FC 2 of MLS NEXT.
Another Sedin has signed a professional contract with a Vancouver-based sports team. On Thursday, Valter Sedin, who is the son of Vancouver Canucks Co-President of Hockey Operations Henrik Sedin, signed a contract with Whitecaps FC 2 through June 2028. Whitecaps FC 2 is the MLS NEXT team of the Vancouver Whitecaps, with the league being used as a feeder system for both the MLS and university.
Sedin has already made his debut with Whitecaps FC 2. He was called up as an academy player on June 30, 2024. Before signing, Sedin was part of the Whitecaps FC BMO Academy System and also played for Hammarby IF's U-19 side in Sweden.
Unlike his dad, Sedin competes for Canada on the international stage. He recently participated in the 2026 U-20 Concacaf Championship, where Canada qualified for the semi-finals. Sedin also helped Canada qualify for the 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup, which will be held in Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan.
