The Canucks and Kessel have been expecting a contract, but nothing was for sure.
Kessel has been skating with the Canucks AHL affiliate in Abbotsford to get in shape. His first skate wasn't the prettiest, but it sounds like he has improved and will likely sign an NHL contract before heading back down for a conditioning stint.
As of yesterday, there is no imminent signing. The Canucks are likely waiting to see where the chips fall as the trade deadline gets closer.
Expect an update on Kessel either tonight or tomorrow before noon local time.
