There has always been a connection with Carolina Hurricanes forward Jake Guentzel and the Vancouver Canucks, and new reports suggest that Vancouver will make a push for the winger in free agency.

Guentzel will be one of the most sought-after free agency during the 2024 offseason, but the Canucks are expected to make a push, according to Frank Seravalli. The former Pittsburgh Penguins winger has been one of the most consistently productive forwards in the NHL since he entered the league.

He could hit the open market for the first time in his career at 30 years old. He has had a cap hit of $6 million, which will increase this summer. According to AFP Analytics, Guentzel is projected to have around a $9.3 million cap hit.

Guentzel could also want a long-term deal of seven years, which is a big commitment for a 30-year-old. The Canucks need to clear some cap space to attempt to acquire him. If they can sign him, pending free agents like Dakota Joshua and Elias Lindholm likely won't be re-signed.

Seravalli reports that if the Toronto Maple Leafs trade Mitch Marner, they could be in the mix to sign Guentzel. Other interested teams include The New York Rangers, Washington Capitals, and Florida Panthers if they don't re-sign Sam Reinhart.
